SINGAPORE - Myanmar booked a surprise berth in the SEA Games football final after a 2-1 victory over Vietnam at the National Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Despite all the early pressure from the favourites Vietnam, it was Myanmar who took the lead in the 38th minute via a penalty after Ho Ngoc Thuang was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area. Si Thu Aung stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the Games.
Vo Huy Toan equalised for Vietnam in the 71st minute when he was on hand to tap the ball into the net after Myanmar goalkeeper Phyo Kyaw Zin had initially palmed away an effort from inside the area.
With the momentum in their ranks, the Vietnamese poured forward in search of the winning goal but it was the White Angels who would deliver the sucker-punch.
