Boat capsizes in Naf River, 41 heads of cattle missing

Shapuri Dip, Bangladesh: An engine boat carrying 65 heads of cattle from Kyauk Pru, the second capital of Arakan State capsized at the mouth of Naf River on March 6, at about 2 am while going to Bangladesh, said a cattle trader from Shapuri Dip.

The boat sank at the mouth of Naf River because it was chased by Burma’s border security force (Nasaka) personnel and the crew tried to flee and rammed into a fishing boat.

The 10 crew members was rescued by another fishing boat while 24 heads of cattle were fished out by other fishing boats, whereas 41 heads of cattle went missing.

It is learnt that all are cattle traders from Sain Kkon Lonn village of Kuauk Pru Townhsip of Arakan State, said a Rakhine from Teknaf on condition of anonymity.

Many heads of cattle from Arakan south especially from Sandoway, Taung Guup, Guwa, Kuyak Pru and Man Aungy Townships come to Bangladesh every year.

The rescued crew members were released after basic medical treatment.
