Police Seize Pirated DVD's Worth RM10 Million

PENANG, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- Police on Wednesday seized pirated DVDs and tools to produce them worth more than RM10 million during a raid around Macallum Road, here.

State Police Chief Datuk Ayub Yaakob said police also detained seven men, including three Myanmar nationals aged in their 20's in the raid at about 3pm.

He said the raid on a shop, which was used as a 'factory' to produce the pirated DVDs, was carried out following information received from the public as well as police intelligence over the past three days.

"During the raid, police seized about 200,000 pieces of DVDs, 10 DVD duplicators and a special machine believed to have been brought in from abroad.

"Each of the duplicators could produce about 1,000 copies of DVDs in an hour while the special machine could produce 6,000 copies during the same period," he told reporters at the scene, here Wednesday.

Ayub said preliminary investigation revealed that the syndicate had used the premises to process the pirated DVDs before they were distributed in Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Perak for the past two months.
