Fencing at border pillar 78 turning controversial

Moreh, March 14: as part of the fencing on the Indo-Myanmar border, the proposed fencing near the border pillar 78 is set to become a bitter controversy.

Strongly reacting to reports published in some newspapers based in Imphal which stated that the Government of Manipur would be giving away the areas that cover the location of the biggest and most beautiful temple of the Tamilian people in the North Eastern region of India, known as Sri Angala Parameshwori Sri Muneeswarar temple to Myanmar, the temple development committee and Tamil Sangam, Moreh have condemned the proposed move of the Government of Manipur and categorically announced that they will fight it legally.
Addressing a press conference attended by the correspondents of various media based at Moreh at the office of the Tamil Sangam today, the office bearers of the Temple Committee and the Tamil Sangam said that the Valladia Temple built by the Tamilians way back in 1964 had gone to Myanmar after the Indo-Myanma border demacration.

After agreements between the Border Security Force and the Myanmar government, the land where the Temple stood had become land of Myanmar. After that, in 1995 Sri Angala Parameshwori Sri Muneeswarar temple was constructed on the side of India's territory.

The office bearers said that the government had not given notice to anyone living in the area that the land of the said areas would be given away to Myanmar, V Shekhar, president of Tamil Sangam reported.
He said, the Temple Committee has patta for its land and it is a registered body. The Committee will fight tooth and nail to save the land of Manipur and the temple with the help of all communities settled at Moreh and people of Manipur.
