KOTA TINGGI, Feb 21(Bernama) -- A vessel, which had been detained before for transferring oil to another vessel, continued to flout the maritime rules.
Detained on Jan 25 and Feb 12, the vessel was caught again for a similar offence three miles nautical off south of Tanjung Stapa, Kota Tinggi at 2.55am Saturday.
The Tarawa, Kiribati registered vessel was transferring oil to a Bangkok registered ship when it was detained, said Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Sedili chief enforcement officer Abd Hadib Abdul Wahab.
He said both vessels failed to provide documents allowing the transfer of oil from the Marine Department.
"The skippers and chief engineers of both vessels were brought the MMEA office here for questioning.
"We also took personal particulars of 29 crew members of both vessels aged between 21 and 64 -- 18 Myanmar nationals and eight Thais," he said here today.
Abd Hadib said although two previous cases were still pending in court, the vessel which had been detained before was free to ply between Tanjung Piai and Pengerang, along the Johor coastline.
