Two killed, four injured in mishap in Chin state

25 February 2011: Two passengers were killed and four seriously injured in a bus accident between Matupi, the second capital of Chin state, Burma and Pakkoku town, Magwe division on February 23 at around 3 a.m.

Van Krih Son (21) son of Van Hung and Ta Kui Khaw son of Mr. Thawl Sung were killed in an accident near Kungbo stream while the bus was heading for Matupi from Pakkoku town. They died on the spot.

“We sent the injured passengers to the Kyaukthu town civil hospital near Mindat town of Chin state. We are trying to ask permission from the local authorities to take away the bodies,” said a local from Matupi.

Travellers say the route often witnesses accidents but it is yet to be identified why this route is accident prone, said a local.

“We really do not know whether the diver fell asleep or there were some mechanical problems or if the bus was over loaded,” said a local from Rangoon.

The route bus owner has been identified as Aung Naing Kyaw from Pakkoku and the bus regularly plies along Matupi and Pakkoku highway for several years now. Khonumthung News
