FIFA president to visit Myanmar


YANGON, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) President Joseph S. Blatter will pay the first-ever visit to Myanmar next month, sources with the sports circle said on Saturday.

Blatter, 75, a Swiss citizen, was elected as the 8th FIFA President in June, 1998.
During his visit to Myanmar at the invitation of Myanmar football president U Zaw Zaw, Blatter will seek way of holding professional leagues by Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) and the soccer projects implemented by the FIFA.
Blatter will inaugurate an already completed football academy in Mandalay, the second largest city of Myanmar.
He started his career in various positions and has formed an alliance with the United Nations children's organization, UNICEF and launched the campaign to increase awareness of children's right.
Blatter is one of the most talented and experienced persons of international sports diplomacy and is totally committed to serving football, FIFA and the youth of the world.
