YANGON, Myanmar (AP) - According to official results, Myanmar's pro-military party has won a majority of seats in both houses of Parliament.
The results are being released in partial batches, but confirm the expected victory of the pro-military Union Solidarity and Development Party, which critics charge was secured through fraud.
The announcement of the results came as democracy icon Aung San Suu Kyi suffered her latest courtroom loss, with an appeal for early release from house arrest rejected. However, close aides remained optimistic that she will soon be granted her freedom.
State radio on Thursday night announced results for 147 more constituencies in the Lower House, with the USDP taking 133 seats. It said the USDP also won 81 of 86 races newly announced for the Upper House.
