Myanmar pro-democracy leader Suu Kyi believed freed

(Reuters) - Myanmar authorities removed police stationed in front of the home of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and dismantled barricades on Saturday, signs she has almost certainly been freed from seven years of house arrest.

But the Nobel Peace Prize winner, who has spent 15 of the past 21 years in detention, had yet to emerge from her house and appear before supporters. There was also no official comment on her release from her party or the government.

The latest detention dates from last August, when a court found she had broken a law protecting the state against "subversive elements" by allowing an American intruder to stay at her home for two nights.
