November 12th, 2010

Nai Tala Lawi : Yesterday in Kyoud Kway village, Three Pagoda Pass (TPP) Township, Karen State, the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) [Burmese government] troops recommenced fighting with the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) and the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA/KNU).

Major Thin Lhie, leader of battalion 16, division 6, under the Karen National Union (KNU) is leading the fight against SPDC’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) No. 284 and LIB No. 207 from the southeast in Kyoud Kway village.

KNU battalion No. 16 contains 45 soldiers while the SPDC’s battalions consist of 200 soldiers. A source close to the KNU reported that, “about 20 soldiers from the SPDC have been injured. Though no one knows how many have died.”

Fighting occurred while both SPDC battalions were marching from the southeast on their way to TPP.

Before KNU battalion No. 16 arrived in TPP, it was attacked by guerilla fighting from Regional Coast Command Major Khin Mung Htun, leading [SPDC] LIB No. 106 and LIB 588. Fighting occurred two kilometers outside of Da Dein village in Karen State and lasted for only five minutes, reported the source close to the KNU.

Now, not only the villagers in Kyoud Kway village have fled, but so have villagers in Mea Da Buoi, Bloun, and Juon Chound. These villagers have escaped to TPP or nearby in Pala Doon Pide village, Htee Wa Dot village and Hlokani village.

Both LIB battalions currently fighting in Kyoud Kway will combine with SPDC battalions already stationed at TPP to fight together against the KNU and the DKBA.
