Karenni people unhappy with NUDP party withdraws to contest in Nov. 7

The National Unity and Development Party (NUDP) in Karenni state which withdrawn to contest in Burma's forthcoming general elections on November 7 leads Karenni people to lack of attraction on the elections.

A resident from Deemawso, said “No more parties which represented a state make me “Nowhere to vote,” I am not interesting on the elections anymore.”

The NUDP has been threatened by the Burmese junta-backed party the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) with the help of local authorities. Earlier others had been warned not to form parties in Karenni. As currently no more ethnic political parties, the situation leaves the public in instant of questions “Which parties we are going to vote for?” according to the local sources.

The Union Election Commission has canceled the NUDP party within dates announce to summit them party members name lists to UEC. Meanwhile the NUDP failed to summit its political party members to UEC, because the party has been continually facing difficulties that threaten their operations by the junta proxy party.

The NUDP, which mainly formed with members of Peace Foundation also known as Nye (Burmese).

The Peace Foundation was faced with the Burmese military regime's Regional Control Command forced them to sign their members not to get in touch with the Karenni Natinal Progressive Party. The forced to sign guarantee on Aug. 16.

According to a resident who close connection with the party said that the SPDC accused the NUDP that the party has connected with the opponents groups.

After the NUDP received the UEC’s approval on August the junta proxy party members have harassed the NUDP even the party chairman’s business ventures.

In addition, they were continually facing a series of difficulties that threaten their operations and pressured not to stand as party in Karenni.
