30 January 2010 (Chinland Guardian): Famous Chin singer Sung Tin Par, along with other singers from Burma, are to attend the 52nd Grammy Awards ceremony scheduled to be held on January 31, 2010 at the Los Angeles' Staples Center.
The singers are said to be sponsored by Chin humanitarian Dr. Levi Sap Nei Thang, founder and president of a non-profit Christian charitable organisation called 'i Love Myanmar'.
Just two days after a three-month long concert in the US to raise awareness and fund for mautam-affected victims in Burma's Chin State, Ms Sung Tin Par will be the first Chin singer to attend the Grammy Awards ceremony.
At a ceremony held in Indianapolis, USA on 16 January 2010, the Chin singer was named the 'Humanitarian Goodwill Ambassador for the Chins' for her humanitarian contributions towards helping the Chin victims of food crisis since late 2008.
Joint General Secretary of Myanmar Ngainngan Gitah Asi-ayone (Burma Music Association), Maung Thit Minn said in Mizzima News that he was optimistic about the trip and that the singers could bring in a new dimension to the Burmese music industry, adding: "So far there have been no nominations for Burmese music and singers, as Burma’s music industry standards are yet to reach the level for Grammy nominations.”
The Grammy Awards, established in 1958, are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States for outstanding achievements in the music industry.
