13th July 2008, Chin Democracy and Human Rights Network are holding a pro-democracy and ethnic-rights demonstration in front of the Myanmar Embassy, in memory of Chin leader, and ethnic Chin students’ hero; Salai Tin Maung Oo.
“In this demonstration in front of the Myanmar Embassy; we demand that the Burma military junta: Immediately cease its human rights violations and religious repression of the ethnic Chin people. Immediately release arrested and detained ethnic Chin students and political prisoners. Immediately relieve ethnic Chin people from other forms of political and economic repression.
We, Chin People, do not have the rights to access to our freedom of expression and opinion in our country. If we see Burmese soldier we feel scare. We are accused of supporting the movement of opposition party name Chin National Front. But here, we can do that. So we need to appeal to our freedom and rights to free the peoples of Chin who have suffered too much in Burma. Due to rampant human rights violations committed by the Burmese military regime in Chinland, about 100,000 thousands Chins are taking refuge in neighboring countries. It is clear that the ethnic Chin people are one of the most suffering ethnic populations in Burma.
In this interview, I ask help to the international community to support us for to change in democracy and the end of ethnic oppression in Burma.” a Chin activist, Tha Thawm Luai of Chin Democracy and Human Rights Network told Taungzalat News.
